The AEA is a UK registered educational charity with an international membership. It combines the interests of research, practice and policy concerning later life learning. Importantly, it involves older learners in dialogue with professionals and volunteers who work in the services that provide and support learning.

The International Longevity Centre - ILC-UK is concerned with demographic change and the implications of longer lives. The past decade saw the UK reach two major tipping points on population ageing, as the post-war baby boomers start to retire. In 2007 in the UK, the number of people of pensionable age outnumbered children for the first time.
